PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. is a bank holding company and financial services corporation based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its banking subsidiary, PNC Bank, operates in 19 states and the District of Columbia. PNC wanted a unique box style that would stand out in an industry category known for 2-D marketing tools. The goal was to target high-end clientele with an unexpected, beautiful package (rather than an envelope) in the mail. The custom box featured a hand-turned angled cutout on the cover that created a sense of motion in the box and allowed for a peek at the contents inside; the drawer-style structure was intended for desktop repurposed storage.
