The F.N. Burt Company was founded in Buffalo, NY by Frederick Northrup Burt.
Mr. Burt sold to the Moore Corporation, and Mary R. Cass was named General Manager, making her one of the very first female managers in a public company.
Burt designed, created, and patented convoluted round and oval box equipment. During these decades, Burt produced over 200 million cigarette boxes per year.
During World War II, Burt made shell cartridges for the war effort, and switched to making lipstick tubes out of paper instead of metal, originating a new direction for cosmetic packaging.
Burt built the largest composite packaging facility in the country in Buffalo, NY.
A custom rigid box facility was built in Oneonta, NY.
The Moore Corp. sold Burt to C. Taylor Kew and W. Russell Hurd, two prominent Buffalo-area businessmen.
The folding carton division and the F.N. Burt name were sold. The rigid box division in Oneonta was renamed Burt Rigid Box, Inc.
Burt Rigid became the first US company to purchase state-of-the-art Italian rigid box equipment by Emmeci.
Burt Rigid bought Maryland-based company Jesco and added slipcases to its list of capabilities.
Burt Rigid acquired the business of award-winning Bronx-based competitor Plaza Packaging.
Stalwart industry leader Brick & Ballerstein of Long Island was incorporated into Burt Rigid.
Burt Rigid acquired the rigid box operations of Pennsylvania- based Hanover Packaging, further expanding capacity.
